There are three Vienna Zoo entrances. The main entrance of the zoo is near the Hietzing metro station. The Tyrolean Garden entrance is situated towards the Seckendorff-Gudent-Weg, with a limited number of parking spaces. And, the other entrance is located towards the Neptune Fountain on the Schonbrunn Palace Grounds.
The Vienna Schonbrunn Zoo is spread across 17 hectares and houses over 700 animal species. You have to walk past the Desert House and Palm House of the Palace Park to reach the zoo premises.
The Schonbrunn Vienna Zoo, established in 1752, was originally an imperial menagerie with only 13 animal enclosures. At present, it houses over 1780 animals, ranging around 700 species. From Siberian tigers, Amur leopards, and African Bush elephants, to giraffes, capybaras, and tropical birds, you can see a wide variety of animals here.
The Vienna Zoo parking is situated near the Tyrolean Garden entrance, known as the Seckendorff-Gudent-Weg, with a few parking spots. There are reserved parking spaces for visitors in wheelchairs. Parkgarage Hietzing, Schonbrunn Parkplatz, and Parkplatz Friedrof Wien are some nearby parking spaces, where you can keep your vehicle during your visit.
There are a number of Vienna Zoo restaurants, offering fine dining, quick snacks, as well as a traditional, Austrian spread. The Gasthaus Tirolergarten, Kaiser Pavillion, Cafe Atelier Nonja, and Cafe Hietzing are a few must-visit dining outlets, which operate throughout the year.
